Downtown Toronto: A fascinatingly modern MiniCty. Toronto’s dense downtown core overlooks Lake Ontario and the bustling Entertainment District. It’s also home to Canada’s famed CN Tower, which first opened to the public in 1976. Named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the “CN” stands for Canadian National, the railway company behind the 553.3m communication and observation tower. By the 1970s, the booming area was so chock-full with skyscrapers that the urban density interfered with reception. The CN tower was fitted with a 102m (eight-ton) antenna to allow radio and television signals to transmit freely throughout the area. For 34 years, it held the record of the tallest free-standing structure in the world, until the Burj Khalifa (828 m) took the title in 2007 (when it was known as the Burj Dubai).
Rich in culture and architectural history
This detailed 3D print showcases other notable Toronto landmarks like the Romanesque St. Andrew’s church; Beaux-Art-inspired Union Station; the curved glass ‘AGO’ (Art Gallery of Ontario); Old City Hall; the urban plaza known as Nathan Phillips Square–home to many an open-air concert and New Year’s Eve celebrations; the Hockey Hall of Fame; Ripley’s Aquarium; the Eaton Centre–North America’s busiest shopping mall) and the lively St. Lawrence Market, named the World’s Best Food Market by National Geographic in 2012.
The MiniCty models of Toronto are built from laser-scan data from 2015, so are missing a few notable buildings: the L-Tower–Daniel Libeskind's 653-foot knife-shaped building that took eighth place in the 2017 Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2017; Ryerson University’s Student Centre with its multiple greens roofs; and aptly-named Theatre Park with its sleek, thin, latticed condos, situated beside the Bell Lightbox, home of the Toronto International Film Festival.
Contemporary, minimalist, clean design
While our 8”x8” MiniCty models are standard, we also offer a variety of larger sizes to satisfy any desire. Sizes include 12”, 16”, 24”, 30”, 36”, up to a wall-covering 54”x54” (sorry about the inches - our panel supplier is in the USA). As the prints get larger, the buildings get bigger and the detail increases! But you get a lot more than simply buildings from MiniCty - you get every tree, bus, hill, park, bridge, and detail, and the largest prints include every car, fence, chimney, spire, and shrub! Check out the shop for prices, and ask us if you don’t see the size you want. We do custom work as well - contact us for details!
